Gearbox
The Albion four speed gear box is darn-near bulletproof (no pun intended). There are really only two things that can be done to improve this, lubrication and final drive sprocket replacement. Lubrication: The problem - Many would argue that there is no problem with the current lubrication which is a light grease called, "Veehdol 00". It is used in thousands of Enfield's all over India and does a fine job. However I have found that using a more common EP gearbox oil resulted in smoother gear changes especially when the bike is cold. The solution - I have diluted the grease with EP 90 oil until it is of a runny consistency. Care needs to be taken with older bikes if running straight oil as they can suffer from leaks. |
